Visa

Obtaining a Golden Visa is an important step that involves careful preparation and submission of documents. At Spaces and Places, we offer comprehensive legal support to make the process as smooth and carefree as possible.

What investor profile is required for a gold visa?

‘Golden Visa’, provided for in Spanish Law 14/2013 on Support for Entrepreneurs and their Internationalisation, aims to attract foreigners who are willing to purchase luxury real estate or invest in public debt securities worth more than two million euros, in company shares or in deposits in financial institutions worth more than one million euros.

‘Golden Visa’ can also be granted to highly qualified professionals and entrepreneurs whose activities are considered “of general interest” because they create jobs or provide other socio-economic benefits (e.g. local development, scientific and/or technological innovation).

Economic Requirement:

The main requirements for obtaining a Golden Visa in Spain are economic, although the legislation states that ‘all the information provided when submitting the application is considered and none of its elements is decisive in itself for its approval’.

For property investments, the minimum amount required to obtain this residence permit is €500,000 plus taxes. These investments can be made in one or more properties or as proindiviso (joint ownership).

Other requirements for a Gold Visa include:
  • Age: Must be 18 years old or older.
  • Legal Status: Must not be residing in Spain illegally.
  • Criminal Record: Must not have a criminal record in Spain or in countries of residence over the past five years (and must not have committed crimes under Spanish law).
  • Health Insurance: Must have private health insurance with a company operating or authorised to operate in Spain.

  • Financial Resources: You must have sufficient financial resources to live in Spain.
  • Fees: Relevant registration fees must be paid.

The Golden Visa provides investors and skilled professionals with the opportunity to live and work in Spain, offering a unique chance to those who meet the investment and legal criteria.

Advantages of the Golden Visa

The Golden Visa offers significant advantages as a residency permit, providing more favourable conditions compared to other types of residency permits.

Initially, this residency permit is valid for one year and can be renewed every two years, ensuring stability and legal protection for the holder.

A key advantage of the Golden Visa is that it extends to immediate family members, including the spouse and children under 18, who can obtain residency concurrently with the primary applicant.

In addition, this residency permit grants the right to free movement across the 26 Schengen Area countries, allowing the visa holder and their family to travel freely throughout most of Europe.

Thus, the Golden Visa provides an efficient and advantageous route to obtaining residency in Spain, with added benefits for investors and their families.
